As an ordained Interfaith Minister, I can legally marry couples in Scotland, at any time of day, on any day of the week, in a huge variety of locations. There are no residency requirements, so you can be married in Scotland from anywhere in the world, providing the necessary paperwork has been completed. I usually work in the Scottish Borders , Glasgow , or Edinburgh – though I will travel. More information about the legal situation is available on the Scottish Government website -

While the first face-to-face contact with a wedding party from overseas might be at the actual marriage ceremony, we will always have had plenty of contact by phone or e-mail before then, to make sure that all the preparations have been made and to work on making the ceremony special and unique.
If you live in the UK, geography permitting, it is likely that we’ll have had one or more face-to-face meetings prior to the wedding, which gives us the opportunity to get to know each other, discuss what you want, or even have a rehearsal.
There is considerable flexibility about venues for weddings in Scotland. Your preference might be for a beach, or other outdoor location, a ruined castle, a baronial manor… However, I have no control over the weather, so come prepared!
In England, the legal part of the marriage has to be carried out by a Registrar in a Registry Office, or by having the Registrar at your wedding premises. As an Interfaith Minister, I usually help provide the wedding that you want by preparing an individually tailored ceremony that takes place after the brief Registry Office part – though I can work with venues where the Registrar is present too.
Many people want the significance of this very important occasion to be more meaningful than the simple Registry Office legalities, but are uncomfortable with the religious aspects of a traditional church wedding. My aim is to personalise this momentous occasion so that it has the joy and significance it deserves.
I work in Northumberland, including Berwick-upon Tweed, and I will also travel to other parts of England for some wedding ceremonies.
